About Clinical Trials

Any new treatments, including medicines, are extensively tested in laboratories or clinics before they are made available to the wider community. The testing is progressive and examines both safety and efficacy in specific and/or broad patient groups, with the results compared with any existing medicines or therapies. These tests are called 'clinical trials' and they are critical to delivering new therapeutics to the community.

IHMRI's Clinical Research and Trials Unit (CRTU) conducts a rolling program of clinical trials on new medicines, as well as research studies into ways of improving clinical practice, health and wellbeing for targeted groups and broad communities. These studies may be conducted in the CRTU (on the University of Wollongong campus) or Wollongong Hospital. Findings from these studies can provide immediate insights for local health services and deliver benefits to our community.

Our professional team of clinical trials coordinators, nurses and doctors are dedicated to supporting patients professionally and safely through their research participation experience; all within our state-of-the-art clinical research facilities.

By registering your interest in research participation, you will receive information about current and upcoming studies and trials that may be of interest to you, a family member or friend.
